Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co., Ltd. (SSTEC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four global eco-technology partners – Hitachi (China) Ltd (Hitachi), Philips (China) Investment Co., Ltd (Philips), Siemens Ltd. China, Corporate Technology (Siemens), and Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), and two major Asian real estate developers - Ayala Land, Inc. (Ayala Land) and Farglory Land Development Group (China) (Farglory), to create a first-of-its-kind green Central Business District (CBD), also known as the Eco-CBD, in the Tianjin Eco-City.

The Eco-CBD is a central piece in the Tianjin Eco-City’s next phase of development. Currently at the conceptualizing stage, the development of the Eco-CBD is an important attempt by SSTEC and its partners to jointly break new ground. The intention is to challenge the norms of environmental degradation, pollution and resource-inefficiency that are often associated with conventional CBDs around the world.

By demonstrating that environmental protection and urbanisation can progress in tandem with economic activities, SSTEC aspires to create an environment that will nurture a “think green, act green, work green and live green” mindset. As a greenfield development, the Eco-City provides an unique opportunity to shape both the hardware and software of this Eco-CBD. Samsung C & T Corporation has also previously signed an MOU with SSTEC to collaborate on the planning and master planning of the Eco-CBD. SSTEC welcomes all existing and new partners to join in this exciting journey.

SSTEC, Ayala Land, Farglory, Hitachi, Philips, Siemens and ST Engineering will collaborate and participate in the research and development of new green technologies, and develop sustainable and practical solutions for the Eco-CBD in areas such as green buildings, alternative transport solutions, connectivity, pollution, congestion, energy efficiency, eco-urban lifestyle and economic vibrancy.

Mr Goh Chye Boon, CEO of SSTEC said, “This collaboration marks an important milestone in the development of the Tianjin Eco-City. We are honoured that Ayala Land, Farglory, Hitachi, Philips, Siemens and ST Engineering have chosen to partner SSTEC to develop an Eco-CBD that will inspire a paradigm shift in how CBDs are being built and used.

We are very heartened that Ayala Land, Farglory, Hitachi, Philips, and ST Engineering, who are already our valued partners in the Eco-City, have decided to work with us again on the Eco-CBD. This underscores the confidence our partners have in us and in the Eco-City. We are also very delighted and excited that new partners like Siemens have come onboard to join us in this extraordinary effort. Today’s signing is but a start and we strongly welcome others who share the same vision as us in eco developments and who are committed in developing the model for CBDs of the future. We are confident that the vast international experiences and strong track records of all our current and future partners in sustainable development will help to lead the way and realise our vision of the Eco-CBD”.

Mr Seah Moon Ming, Deputy CEO of ST Engineering said, “ST Engineering applauds the collaborative efforts between Tianjin and SSTEC to achieve environmental sustainability amidst urbanisation. We are delighted and excited to be part of the development of a first-of-its-kind Eco-CBD in the Tianjin Eco-City. The ST Engineering Group's expertise and portfolio of Green engineering solutions will be a good fit to building a modern township that is in harmony with the environment.”

Today, SSTEC also signed separate contracts with Hitachi, Philips and ST Engineering to implement eco solutions for energy efficiency and environmental management in Tianjin Eco- City.

Hitachi will provide Home Energy Management System (HEMS) for the first 450 residential units in the Sheng Jing residential development, which is a joint venture between SSTEC, Mitsui Fudosan Residential Co., Ltd. and Tiong Seng Properties Pte Ltd. Hitachi also separately signed a Letter of Intent with SSTEC for comprehensive collaboration in HEMS and Electric Vehicle Hub.

SSTEC also appointed ST Engineering’s subsidiary, ST Environmental Services & Technologies Ltd (STSE), as the Design-Build-Operate-Own (DBOO) partner to develop a Pneumatic Waste Collection System in the Eco-Business Park. Philips signed a contract to provide energy-efficient lighting solutions for the Landmark Building project in the Eco-Business Park. Hitachi, STSE and Philips will also be providing these respective eco-solutions for the Eco-CBD project.

Mr. Kazuhiro Mori, Representative Executive Officer, Executive Vice President and Executive Officer of Hitachi, Ltd., said “Hitachi has accumulated the technology and know-how on many aspects from its 100 years operation, including telecommunication and information control, and the infrastructure for power, gas, heating, and transportation, etc. We will integrate these technologies and know-how and apply them in the Eco-City construction. We are honored as the sole Japanese enterprise partner for SSTEC’s ECO-CBD project. Hitachi will leverage our group resources to guarantee the Tianjin Eco City project success, which will be a role model of our smart city related business, a key business of the Social Innovation Business.”

Through these collaborations, SSTEC will draw even greater interest and awareness about the Eco-CBD and other green and clean-tech companies to invest in the Eco-City. This will no doubt help to break new paths, create job opportunities and economic vibrancy for the Eco-City.
