The institution acquires a different spirit and heads in new directions. When such a new appointment takes place, the most effective way gauge the changes is at the institute's next exhibition.
Tianjin Painting Academy is staging its first group exhibition since He Jiaying, became president. The new man at the top is a highly-regarded ink-and-brush painter. On display are over two hundred paintings. The majority are by young artists - the backbone of the institute. Also on view are the works of five artists who are scheduled to join the academy in the near future.
The exhibition is intended to be an artistic reflection of a broader mood for change.
