010After successfully celebrating the Boeing Centennial and its 15 Years Operation Anniversary in July, Boeing Tianjin Composites (BTC) has been awarded a new contract to provide detail parts for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Aft Large Cargo Door, adding to an atmosphere of joy and festivity at the company.

BTC is a joint venture of Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company, and the Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC), China’s largest state-owned aviation manufacturer.

BTC’s current capability in the advanced manufacture of aerospace composite components provides Boeing with a capable partner to introduce further technical improvements to engineering and manufacturing that make the Large Cargo Door easier to assemble at the Boeing factories.

With changes that would lead to ergonomics improvements for employees and cost savings, Boeing and BTC collaborated on an expedited implementation. Dedicated teams analyzed and modeled the production technique and flow and opted to use carbon composite material instead of titanium.

Justin Franke, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Supplier Management Director for China programs, said that these changes not only save a considerable amount of material and cost, but also decrease complexity of the larger assembly and reduce requirements on Boeing final assembly mechanics at Boeing’s two 787 factories in the United States.

Jose P. Garza, General Manager for BTC, commented, "As a result of BTC’s agility and competitiveness, we have won our 5th new contract this year. Boeing continues to recognize the flexibility and eagerness of the entire BTC team to support Boeing’s goals for high product performance, quality, reliability and cost savings."

This latest cooperation signifies BTC’s growing strategic partnership with Boeing, advancing BTC’s strategy to double in size over the next five years. BTC also won contracts to manufacture the Boeing 777X Fixed Leading Edge Panels Program and Boeing 787 Advanced Door Surrounds Program earlier this year.

BTC, the largest aviation employer in Tianjin, is providing around 900 aerospace job opportunities to the local community, including more than 20 disabled employees. BTC is an important part of the improving aerospace industry in Tianjin. With the additional work, BTC anticipates adding over 150 jobs over the next five years solidifying its position as Tianjin's largest aerospace employer and highlighting its commitment to further China's aerospace industry.
