SINGAPORE: The first team of 37 executives from the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city project completed their training programme on green building development at the BCA Academy in Singapore on Friday.

The training programme was jointly developed by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Tianjin Institute of Urban Construction.

It's part of a collaboration which was formally established at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in May 2010 between BCA and Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee (ECAC).

It is an eight-day executive development programme specially developed for officials and professionals involved in the eco-city project.

It included a four-day study on technical and legislative requirements of green building development in Tianjin and four days of briefings and on-site learning in Singapore.

In Singapore, green building experts and practitioners from the BCA, the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the National Environment Agency, the Housing Development Board, CPG Consultants and DP Architects shared their experiences and best practices with the eco-city team.

To gain first-hand knowledge of the sustainable development in Singapore's built environment, the Tianjin team also visited a number of Green Mark buildings here.

They included Samwoh's EcoPark, Resort World Sentosa, National Library Building, Zero Energy Building, HDB's Pinnacle@Duxton and PUB's Marina Barrage.

ECAC's assistant director of Construction Bureau Mr Huang Yong Hao, who led the team to Singapore, said: "We should continue this joint training programme, which will develop a group of visionary, experienced and specialised professionals for green building development in Tianjin Eco-city and even China.

“I hope the team can apply what they have learnt during this training by employing green building concepts, green building technologies and promoting the development of green building."

BCA's executive director (Services), Mr Choo Whatt Bin, said: "BCA values the opportunity given by this training programme for Singapore officials and private practitioners to share their expertise and knowledge on the development and management of green building with their Chinese counterparts. We hope it also deepened the relationships between the two sides for future collaborations."
