A worker at an affiliate of Foxconn Technology Group in south China's Guangdong Province died early Tuesday after falling from a dormitory building.
The young man, said to be 18-years old, fell from the sixth floor of a dormitory building owned by Chimei Innolux Corp. at about 6 a.m. Tuesday in Nanhai District, Foshan City.
Co-workers said the young man was a summer intern from Dongfang Vocational School of Technology in Shijiazhuang, capital of north China's Hebei Province.
His summer job at Chimei only began in June, an employee said.
Taiwan's leading LCD panel maker, Chimei Innolux Corp. became operational in March through the merger of Foxconn's Innolux Display Corporation and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp.
The government information office and the public security bureau in Nanhai District confirmed the young man's death to Xinhua.
A manager at Foxconn's Shenzhen firm also verified the information.
The cause of the death is being investigated.
Foxconn came under fire after 10 workers committed suicide by jumping from factory and dormitory buildings at its industrial complex in Shenzhen between July 2009 and May 2010.
The company is the world's biggest electronics contractor. It makes high-tech products for top brands, such as Apple iphone sets. Half of its 800,000 mainland China employees are located in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province.
