At least 24 people were injured after two Light Rail trains collided near the Hang Mei Tsuen stop in Tin Shui Wai Friday evening. The involved train captains have been suspended from duty temporarily, the MTR corporation said.
The MTR said the incident occurred around 6.48 pm yesterday (Fri). The Yuen Long-bound route 761P train reached a stop light near the Hang Mei Tsuen stop and was hit by the route 751 train following from behind.
The captains immediately stopped the trains and reported the incident to the operations control center and to the police.
After a safety assessment, the two trains drove to the Hang Mei Tsuen stop and paramedics came to assist the injured passengers. Twenty-four passengers felt unwell and 19 of them were sent to Tuen Mun Hospital, Tin Shui Wai Hospital and Pok Oi Hospital.
