The company said in a statement that faulty static protection could prevent the engine computer from operating normally.

The affected Corolla Exs were made between October 23, 2010 and January 29, 2011.

Domestic carmaker Geely recently announced that its sales increased 8 percent in the first seven months over the same period last year to about 235,000 units, but the figure was only 49 percent of its full-year sales goal of 480,000 vehicles.

The company said the expiration of both the purchase tax rebate for small cars and government subsidy on trade-in cars affected sales.

The company said it is confident it will meet the full-year target as Geely will have several new cars on the market in the coming months that are expected help to boost sales.
