The National Bureau of Statistics Tianjin Survey Office published general price levels for 2011. City residents' consumption remained high throughout 2011, with prices rising by 4.9%, rising by 1.4% over 2010’s figure, as inflationary pressures increased further.
Food prices rose 11.4%, home equipment and maintenance service prices rose 6.1%. Alcohol and tobacco rose 4.8%, while clothes rose 2.1%, medical care and personal products rose 1.8%. However, the entertainment and educational products dropped 0.5%.Traffic and communication fell 0.1%.
Against a background of national inflationary pressures, the Tianjin CPI figure increased dramatically though it was still lower than the national figure. Amongst 36 major cities in China, Tianjin ranked 31st. Beijing ranked 5th, Chongqing ranked 23rd and Shanghai ranked 25th, all higher than Tianjin.
