Authorities of the Sino-Singaporean Eco-City in north China's port city of Tianjin will inject 16 billion yuan (2.54 billion U.S. dollars) this year in speeding up the construction of the joint metropolis project.
The money will be used in the construction of 60 key projects, including a hospital, a museum, a school and other public facilities, a spokesman with the Eco-City's administrative committee said Thursday.
Located in the Tianjin Binhai New Area, the 30-square kilometer Tianjin Eco-City lies 150 kilometers east of Beijing. Construction on the Eco-City began in July 2008, and it is designed to be a sustainable and resource efficient metropolis where 350,000 residents can live and work by the time it is completed in 2020.
The Eco-City program is the second of its kind between the Chinese and Singaporean governments, following the China-Singapore Suzhou Industry Park in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou.
