Tianjin ranked third in the 2011 china charm cities selection activity, which was judged by foreigners working in China. Among 353 cities in China, Tianjin ranked third, trailing only Beijing and Shanghai.
This selection criterion was composed of 18 different indexes divided into 4 categories including policy environment, administrative environment, working environment, and living environment. Tianjin won the most votes in the living environment category, and ranked third in three indexes including “policy & information acquisition”, “urban development plan”, and “social & public civilization”. In addition, Tianjin ranked highly in the indexes of “related organization allocation”, “entrepreneurship support policy”, “promotion & development opportunities”, and “children educational environment”. Foreign Experts responding to the survey thought that Tianjin is a city with both western and eastern qualities. Tianjin has changed much in recent years. Many large and beneficial projects have been completed bringing new experiences and adventures to foreigners.
According to the Tianjin Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs, Tianjin has treated Foreign Experts the same as Tianjin citizens in employment and social insurance matters in an attempt to attract more Foreign Experts to Tianjin for employment. In 2011, the total number of the Foreign Experts working long-term in Tianjin reached 2300. Those who worked in Tianjin temporarily for shorter periods of time numbered 10,000. These Foreign Experts have helped Tianjin solve more than 800 difficult technology problems and they gave Tianjin great support in its economic development.
In 2012, Tianjin will continue to recruit more Foreign Experts. It is hoped over 2500 Foreign Experts will call Tianjin home for the long-term.
In this selection activity, the top ten cities on the list were Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Chongqing, Xiamen and Hangzhou. Almost 11,300 Foreign Experts participated in this activity.
