Toyota Motor China and Tianjin FAW Toyota have made a decision to recall 16,074 Toyota RAV4 SUVs in China, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today, citing a statement made by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. The recall, which will begin on September 3, will target imported RAV4s, manufactured between July 2005 and November 2008, as well domestically made ones, manufactured between February 2009 and October 2010.

The recall is being issued in order to ensure that the rear suspensions of the RAV4s (pictured) are properly installed. There are concerns that the screws attaching the swingarm to the suspension may not be sufficiently tightened, or that they may even be corroded or damaged. In severe cases, such a flaw could cause the sidearm to detach itself, constituting a severe safety hazard.

Toyota Motor China and Tianjin FAW Toyota authorized dealerships will inspect the suspensions of all vehicles in question. If any issue is to be found, they will make the necessary repairs in order to ensure the problem is eliminated.
