Apple and China Unicom reach iPhone launch deal

Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Apple Inc. and China Unicom have announced plans to launch the iPhone in China later in the year. As reported by AFP, the companies have come to an agreement on a multi-year deal for the popular cellular device to make its debut in the country.
 
Alan Hely, a spokesman for Apple, is quoted in the report as stating of the agreement, “We have signed a multi-year deal with China Unicom to bring iPhone to China, and we expect the launch to be in the fourth quarter of 2009.”
 
As noted by AFP, government statistics showed the number of mobile users in China to total 687 million in May. Prices for the phone are reportedly expected to start to at 2,999 yuan (439 dollars).
