A direct cargo flight was launched on the evening of 31 October between Taipei and north China's Tianjin Municipality, becoming the first cargo air route between Taiwan and a northern city on the Chinese mainland.

The Taiwan-based Eva Air will operate one round-trip cargo flight each week. This will facilitate the entrance of Taiwanese high-end goods into the northern market on the Chinese mainland and save transportation costs, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of Tianjin.

Tianjin Binhai International Airport has become a regional aviation hub in recent years. It is expected to accommodate 25 million passengers and 1.7 million tonnes of cargo by 2020.
Â
Official statistics show that Tianjin has approved the establishment of 2,198 Taiwanese-funded enterprises with a total investment of nearly 13.3 billion USD. In the past five years, the enterprises added investment of 2.57 billion USD, which amounted to a 38.5-percent annual increase.
