The Beijing Municipal government plans to number all parking lots in the city and set up an electronic parking map to facilitate better parking management and coordination.
Â
Beijing only has about 2.76 million parking spaces for its 5.4 million cars. Illegal parking charges and civil disorder at car parks abound in the city, said the report.
Â
In order to properly develop the electronic map, new equipment should be installed at each parking space to upload real-time information to the mapping system. The initial plan to implement the map was introduced by staff members from BJGL Anda Parking Management Co., Ltd.
Â
New regulation has recently been passed that stipulates all spots that charge for parking must be available to the public 24/7. Violators can face fines of up to 10,000 CNY. Likewise, those who install parking locks to block others from using a spot without the permission of the city can face fines of up to 5,000 CNY.Â
