The leading broadcaster based in the second largest metropolitan area of Northern China, Tianjin TV, has successfully launched IPTV video on demand (VOD) and over the top (OTT) services.

The deployment has been made by the Tianjin Internet Broadcasting Television Station (TIBTS) branch of Tianjin TV which operates eleven local channels working in cooperation with China Unicom's content delivery network. Services include IPTV, OTT and mobile TV service, linear channels, VOD and catch-up TV. The Tianjin IPTV service has already attracted more than 400,000 subscribers since TIBTS started testing it with China Unicom in May 2011.

The new deployment has been made possible by use of the TITAN product from advanced video compression solutions provider ATEME. TITAN will see use in generating on-demand content simultaneously in Adobe RTMP, Apple HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming for playback on set-top-boxes, PCs or mobile devices running iOS and the Android operating systems.

"ATEME provides an all-in-one, flexible solution that includes not only the functionality for any input and any output, but also a centralised management interface and the ability to add more capacity as we grow."Â
