To commemorate the late Comrade Deng Yingchao's 110th birthday, a special exhibition of Deng's cultural relics was held at the Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao, in north China's Tianjin Municipality, on April 2. 

 

Deng, a Pioneer of the Chinese Women's Movement in the 20th century, was the wife of the first Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. Deng was the chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from 1983 to 1988, and a member of the Communist Party of China. Deng promoted the abolition of foot binding, a cruel practice which was still being imposed on women in the 20 century. Deng died in Beijing at the age of 88. 

 

The exhibition was jointly sponsored by the Committees for the Wellbeing of the Youth in Tianjin and Qingdao, a coastal city in east China's Shandong Province, the Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press and Publication in Tianjin and the Memorial to Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao. 

 

Sixty-five out of the 100 cultural relics on show were donated by Zhou Baozhang, who is the nephew of Zhou Enlai and is from the Qingdao Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth. These cultural relics include more than 40 letters written by Deng Yingchao to her nephew Zhou Baozhang from 1957 to 1981, a telegraph to him and some clothes sent to him, showing Deng's concern over her nephew's studies, life, mind and more, and the couple's strict requirements to their relatives. 

 

Since March 1998, Zhou Baozhang has given a total of 647 reports about Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao based on what he has learned about the couple's moving stories, which have been rarely spoken about in public. 

 

The exhibition will run until April 13, and is free to the public.
