A new terminal at Beijing South Railway Station -- which was built by Tianjin Binhai International Airport -- has nearly been completed and will begin operations in May, cutting travel time between the railway station and Tianjin airport by one hour, Beijing.
Â
Upon its completion, passengers will be able to buy their air tickets and finish their flight check-in at the terminal before taking the Beijing-Tianjin Inter-City Express Railway to Tianjin Railway Station, and then taking the airport shuttle to Tianjin Binhai Airport. Fees for train and shuttle will be returned to passengers after the journey.
Â
Meanwhile, the Terminal No 2 Station of Tianjin airport will become operational at the end of August, when the airport will be capable of handling 30 to 50 million passenger trips per year.
Â
"Tianjin Metro Line 2 will run to the Terminal No 2 Station in August. In addition, the inner-city railway that links Tianjin airport will begin construction at the end of this year," said Yan Xin, general manager of the airport.
Â
So far, Tianjin Binhai airport and Beijing Capital International Airport have developed a plan to divert flights and air lines. About 1.4 million passengers will be expected to take off from Tianjin instead of Beijing this year.
Â
Tianjin airport has established terminals in Hebei’s Cangzhou and Huanghua cities and will later expand to Qinhuangdao, Tangshan and Beidaihe.Â
