Fog and heavy rain led to some 80 flights being cancelled and hundreds delayed at Shanghai’s airports yesterday morning.
Â
More than 150 international and domestic flights were delayed at Hongqiao International Airport by 1pm yesterday as the city’s weather forecasters issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms. Meanwhile, some 120 flights were held up at Pudong International Airport.
Â
Delays began during the morning peak time at both airports, the Shanghai Airport Authority said.
Â
Flights to Chizhou in Anhui Province and Chongqing, Guiyang and other inland areas were among those delayed for about three hours.
Â
Schedules returned to normal in the afternoon as the weather improved.
Â
More delays are to be expected at the city’s airports over the next two months due to seasonal thunderstorms and typhoons, China Eastern Airlines said.
Â
Passengers should double-check flight information to avoid being stranded by delays at the airport, the local carrier advised.Â
