alt A Chinese man received a 14-month jail sentence on Wednesday for causing trouble after hurling an ink bottle at the late Chairman Mao Zedong's portrait in Tiananmen Square.

Sun Bing, 42, stained Mao's portrait on 6 March 2014 after throwing an ink bottle at the portrait in order to attract attention. The area near the rostrum was then cordoned off and Sun was arrested by local police at the scene, according to the court. The court ruled that Sun defied the law when he made a mess and caused public disorder. It added that Sun should be given a heavier punishment for committing another crime. Sun was released from prison in January 2013 after serving 17 months in jail for credit card fraud.
