April 23 (Bloomberg) -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG raised its 2010 China sales target to 120,000 units from an earlier 100,000 units, Chief Executive Officer Norbert Reithofer told reporters today at the Beijing Auto Show.
The automaker sees long-term potential for the Chinese market at sales of about 300,000 vehicles a year, Reithofer said. BMW targets having production capacity of 200,000 units a year from 2012, he said. Production in China “will always” lag demand, Reithofer said.
At the same time, BMW won’t make China the focus of its business, he said.
Reithofer said he isn’t concerned by Chinese government support for local rivals. BMW also has no plans to cooperate with PSA Peugeot Citroen in China, he said.
