Apr. 26, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Nissan Motor Corp, the third-largest auto maker in Japan, plans to increase its China output by 70% from the current 535,000 vehicles to 900,000 vehicles per year by 2012, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said on Friday at the Beijing Auto Show.
The Japanese auto maker aims to raise its China sales by 12% to 850,000 units this year, said Ghosn. Last year, the auto maker sold 756,000 vehicles in China.
It also plans to increase the number of Nissan dealers to 450 from the 391 it had at end of last year.
In addition, Nissan will produce its Leaf all-electric cars locally in China as long as the Chinese government decides to offer substantial purchase incentives, he said.
The Leaf all-electric car is expected to help Nissan compete with Warren Buffett-backed BYD Co Ltd in the world's largest auto market.
