The number of people entering Chinese territory is on track to plunge in the wake of travel restrictions imposed to prevent further outbreaks of the COVID-19 disease.

According to figures released by China’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) on 30 March the period from 29 March to 4 April is expected to see only 108 international passenger flights.

This will result in a drop in daily incoming passenger levels from 25,000 to around 4,000 or so.

China launched a temporary ban on foreign nationals entering the country on Saturday March 28 without specifying an end date. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the measures would be “calibrated in light of the evolving situation and announced accordingly.”
