Beijing requires teachers and students to postpone their returning plans during the summer vacation if they are in medium- or high-risk areas in other parts of China, until the area they are staying or have visited is adjusted to a low-risk area, the Beijing education authority announced Wednesday.

The city reported one locally confirmed patient found on Tuesday, who showed symptoms after being categorized as an asymptomatic carrier on August 1. In total, 54 close contacts of the patient have been found.

For those who are within the city and live in medium- or high-risk areas, they are permitted to return to schools with a negative nucleic acid test report taken within 48 hours after the area is reduced to low-risk area, said Li Yi, deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, at a press conference on Wednesday introducing the policies of returning to school after summer vocation.

For those who are currently outside Beijing and in areas with medium- or high-risk status, a 14-day health monitoring in Beijing is required before returning to school. A nucleic acid testing report within 48 hours and one more testing on the day of arrival in Beijing are also required before being qualified to return to universities.
