A Chinese female tourist tragically lost her life on Saturday (23rd) while skiing in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, after reportedly being buried under snow following a fall. The incident occurred on a ski slope that had been closed due to heavy snowfall, and Japanese authorities are currently investigating the incident.
According to reports from Sunday (24th) by Japanese media, the incident took place at Kagura Ski Resort in Yuzawa Town. Preliminary information released by the police identified the deceased as 27-year-old Fu Chunmi, a Chinese national who was visiting Niigata for a skiing trip. The accident occurred around 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Fu’s companion immediately contacted the ski patrol team for assistance, and they were able to rescue her from the snow. However, despite efforts made during transportation to the hospital, Fu was found to have no signs of breathing and was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene, who were fellow skiers, informed the police that they saw Fu fall but were hesitant to help her due to their own limited skiing abilities. It has been reported that the ski slope where the incident occurred was designated for advanced skiers and had been closed to visitors due to the significant snowfall and the risk of avalanches.
