A routine flight operated by Scoot, the low-cost carrier owned by Singapore Airlines, took an unexpected turn last Friday when mechanical issues forced the Boeing 787-8 aircraft, flight number TR139, to make an unscheduled landing in Hong Kong in route from Tianjin to Singapore.

The aircraft, which is nearly seven years into service, departed from Tianjin Binhai International Airport at 9.18am on Friday. According to data from the flight tracking platform FlightRadar24, the plane touched down at Hong Kong International Airport at 1.18pm for what was a precautionary landing due to a mechanical malfunction. Passengers documented the ground crew inspecting the aircraft’s engines during the wait.

In response to the incident, Scoot issued a statement on the same day, confirming that a replacement flight had been arranged at 11.45pm to ferry passengers to their final destination in Singapore. The airline also pledged assistance to those who required further travel connections. Scoot emphasised its commitment to safety, placing the well-being of passengers and crew as its utmost priority, and extended an apology for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
