At the Nanjing International New Energy Auto Expo on Sunday, 24th March, a display model from Geely’s electric car brand Zeekr unexpectedly activated and resulted in injuries to several individuals, sparking chaos at the scene.
During the event, a grey Zeekr vehicle suddenly lurched forward, colliding with a BYD new energy car on display. Footage circulating online shows a child and several staff members on the ground, with onlookers in a state of shock. One man, claiming to be a relative of the injured boy, was seen confronting the driver, banging on the car window and demanding answers for the collision.
Zeekr responded later that evening, acknowledging a failure in following the correct procedures for display vehicle management, leading to the vehicle not being set to the mandated exhibition mode.
The five spectators who were injured are not in life-threatening conditions, Zeekr confirmed. Three individuals were discharged after medical checks found no significant harm, while two others sustained minor injuries and remain under medical observation.
