Tianjin TEDA, one of the first state-level economic-technological development areas in China, was rated AAA and ranked top 10 industrial parks in the country. The rating conducted by China Knowledge Financial is the highest grade. Industrial parks with an AAA rating are the most established and have the best investment environment and is strongly recommended.
Tianjin Economic-technological Development Area, or TEDA, was established on Dec. 6, 1984 with the approval of the State Council of China. There are also three satellite development areas in the neighborhood: Yixian Scientific and Industrial Zone, Microelectronics Industrial Area and Chemical Industry Area. The area with chemical industries cluster, a unique theme industrial park is listed on Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
TEDA is located to the southeast of Tianjin 45 kilometers from downtown. To its south is the Tianjin-Tanggu trunk road, to its west is the Beijing-Harbin Railway, and to its east is Tianjin New Port. TEDA is traversed by the Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu Highway.
Close to it, about 5 km away, Tianjin Port which is the third-biggest port in China after Ningbo Port and Shanghai Port, has over 80 trade routes connecting it with over 300 ports in 170 countries and regions. The port area is nearly 30 square kilometers and has over 140 berths of all kinds, including 15 container berths. Annual throughput is 355.9 million tons.
TEDA's pillar industries are electronics and communications, automobiles, equipment manufacturing, chemicals, food and beverages, biopharmaceuticals, spacecraft manufacturing, new energy and new materials. In 2008, these industries generated industrial output of RMB 347.7 billion, accounting for 93.2% of TEDA's total.
Some major foreign companies invested there include Motorola Inc (USD 2.9 billion), Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd (USD1 billion), Toyota Motor (USD 586 million), GlaxoSmithKline and Coca Cola.
