Chinese government will be the first to lift bans over food imported from Yamagata and Yamanashi, which were imposed after the March 11 quake and tsunami.

The statement was made at the last day of a three-way summit with South Korea echoing demand from Japan.

Radiation leaked from the damaged Fukushima Nuclear Plant had led to trade constraints in many countries including the EU, India and China due to safety concerns.

China’s product quality watchdog on April 8 expanded its ban on Japan’s imports, by placing more produces and produces from more origins under it, including food, editable agricultural products and animal feed in 12 Japanese prefectures.

Japan’s food imports are facing ever stricter constrains from the EU, as the latter required food and feeds from the 12 Japanese prefectures should be tested before leaving Japan with an attached safety guarantee, and should receive random detections at the EU border.

Goods from other 35 Japanese prefectures are also ordered to be checked randomly by the EU administration, and a statement clarifying their origins should also be attached.

Imports of Japan’s food are virtually halted, as the government could for now provide certifications of radiographic examination to the EU and Singapore, but there have been nearly 20 countries and regions are requesting such certifications.

At the summit, China also promised a series of measures to aid Japan, including sending a tourist group of 100 people, and a big purchasing group to Japan.

This has been the first official meeting between top officials from the two sides since last year’s boat collision.
