Deere & Co. announced today that it will build a factory to manufacture engines for John Deere equipment it is producing in China.
The Moline-based Deere said the new factory represents a $60 million investment. It will be located in the Tianjin Economic and Development Area, where the company already has other facilities.
The announcement comes nearly a week after Deere unveiled plans to build a new agricultural equipment manufacturing facility in Harbin in the Heilongjiang Province.
"John Deere aspires to deliver great products to our customers around the world,” Samuel Allen, Deere’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a news release. “This engine factory will allow John Deere to deliver increased technology for China customers while leveraging enterprise investments and engineering resources in China.”
Deere said the facility will be the company’s sixth engine factory worldwide, all which are strategically located to support facilities that manufacture John Deere’s agricultural, construction and forestry equipment. Deere has engine factories in Argentina, France, India, Mexico and the United States.
The company estimates the factory in China could start production in late 2013.
