Representatives of the World Economic Forum and the Tianjin Government, People’s Republic of China, today announced that the World Economic Forum’s sixth Annual Meeting of the New Champions (also known as the Summer Davos) will take place in Tianjin from 11 to 13 September 2012. The Meeting will be hosted in partnership with the government of the People’s Republic of China, represented by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

Introduced in 2007, the Annual Meeting of the New Champions has become the foremost global business gathering in Asia. Over 1,500 business, government and civil society leaders from 90 countries have annually participated in the three-day Meeting. The first Meeting was held at a critical time as the world sought new ways to move forward from the global economic crisis. The Meeting focuses on the response of the new generation of fast-emerging multinational companies to the current economic challenges and future opportunities.

“We are excited to return to Tianjin for the 2012 Summer Davos,” said Olivier Schwab, Executive Director, World Economic Forum China. “The Meeting will once again provide an excellent platform for leaders to engage with the World Economic Forum’s Global Growth Companies Community – the industry leaders of tomorrow who are the driving force of economic and social change around the world,” he added.

"It is an honour to welcome the New Champions back to Tianjin," said Vice-Mayor Ren Xuefeng. "We look forward to working with the World Economic Forum in the coming months to make this sixth Annual Meeting of the New Champions a success."

"We firmly believe that the World Economic Forum and the Tianjin government, with the support of the Tianjin people, will work together to make the sixth Annual Meeting of the New Champions a great success," said Ms Lin Dajian, Deputy Director-General, Department of Foreign Affairs, NDRC.

The Annual Meeting of the New Champions provides a platform for the rising generation of global leaders from business and society to contribute to broader policy discussions and engage with the world’s top business executives. The New Champions are led by the Forum’s growing Global Growth Companies Community as well as the communities of Technology Pioneers, Young Global Leaders and Young Scientists. The Meeting will highlight the role that new and fast-emerging multinational companies play in enabling and driving sustainability in a global business landscape that has been fundamentally changed by the economic crisis.

Media accreditation for the Meeting will be open in early June 2012.
