Cabot is shutting down operations of its masterbatch plant in Hong Kong on March 31, 2012, and shifting to its new manufacturing facility in Tianjin, according to an announcement made by company officials. From April 2012, the entire range of Cabot’s masterbatch products that were produced in China will be manufactured in Tianjin.
The Tianjin masterbatch plant, which started operations in September 2011, has a present capacity of 45KMT that is sufficient to supply the present requirements of the Asian plastics industry and also to attain near-term future growth.
Cabot has built its Tianjin site in such a way that it will be the major carbon black production facility and black masterbatch plant in Asia. The carbon black and masterbatch operations are completely integrated, which ensures strong competitive benefits through increased scale, integrated economics, and advanced process technology.
President and CEO, Cabot, Patrick Prevost, stated that they desire to be the choice supplier for masterbatch in China’s plastic market. He added that Tianjin operations offer significant competitive benefits. By shifting all the China masterbatch manufacturing to Tianjin, the benefits are maximized. The shifting enables proximity to customers and helps offer superior quality, cost-effective masterbatch using sophisticated process technologies.
Cabot manufactures masterbatch products for a wide range of applications in the plastics industry that include automotive and key infrastructure applications. Standard end products include pipes, plastic moldings, film, cable jacketing, and many more.
Cabot’s masterbatch is a performance material made of a carbon black and polymer mixture for use in a broad variety of thermoplastic applications.
