Airbus delivered today the fourth aircraft assembled at its Final Assembly Line China (FALC) in Tianjin. The A320 was delivered to China Eastern Airlines, who were the first Airbus aircraft operator in China. China Eastern Airlines introduced its first Airbus, an A310, in 1985 and has the largest Airbus aircraft fleet in China with 147 aircraft, including 107 A320 family aircraft.

The aircraft, powered by IAE V2500 engines, has a two-class configuration with 8 business and 150 economy seats.

“The Airbus A320 is the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft and it is also the profit maker for China Eastern. We are to have more than 40 additional A320 family aircraft to be added to our fleet in the next years. As an operator of a large Airbus fleet, we have experienced the low costs and high efficiency that the A320 Family aircraft can offer. Today, we are pleased and proud to add to our Airbus fleet with an A320 assembled in China,” said Mr. Zhang Jianzhong, Vice President of China Eastern Airlines.

“We are delighted to have delivered an A320 to China Eastern Airlines from our FAL in Tianjin. We cherish the long-lasting partnership with China Eastern Airlines, who were our first customer in China and are now the largest operator of Airbus aircraft in China,” said Eric Chen, Airbus China Senior Vice President, Commercial & External Affairs.

The A320 Family is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. With more than 6,400 aircraft sold, and over 4,000 aircraft delivered to more than 300 customers and operators worldwide, the A320 Family is the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft. The Family comprises four aircraft (A318, A319, A320 and A321) that share unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range.

By the end of July 2009, more than 410 A320 Family aircraft were in operation in China with 12 operators. Chinese airlines have ordered close to 600 A320 Family aircraft in total.
