Police have caught 56 suspects and seized nearly 50,000 fake medicines worth more than 100 million CNY (16.23 million USD) in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province.

Police said fake botulin toxin and hyaluronic acid shots were among the items seized. Botulin toxin injections are used to remove facial wrinkles while hyaluronic acid shots are injected into joints to treat osteoarthritis.

The crackdown was triggered by a routine check of a beauty parlor on March 11, when police and food and drug inspectors found more than 500 unlicensed products.Â
